Cyborgs are combined being - man and machine. Deutsche Welle met with one of them in Berlin.
Niall Harbison did not want to accept the disease colorblindness - and therefore get technical assistance.
Deutsche Welle: How the world is like the eyes of a cyborg?
Niall Harbison: "I can see only the different tones of gray. But thanks to the electronic eye I hear music, for example, when walking through the wall. Lots of different tones, because the wall is very colorful "
You're constantly surrounded by shades. Are you sometimes bothered?
"Ten years ago I'd gone mad. Today, we no longer matter. My brain is accustomed to listening colors. But usually there is no such tones as here. "
What is your favorite color?
"My favorite color is infrared, because it is the deepest tone, which can recognize. It's exciting to electronic eye. May perceive the different colors of the people. "
How did you become a cyborg?
"In the study of music, I attended a lecture on cybernetics, control engineering. It was about the functioning of the senses through technology. Then it hit me: if I could not recognize color technique? So we have installed electronic eye that converts colors to shades. Little by little, the eye has become part of my body. Later, I felt a strong connection between technology and my body. "
How do people react to you?
"People with antennas in our society still subject to prejudice. Some point the finger at me and laugh. I was particularly surprising that in the last nine years that have electronic eye, nothing has changed. "
